The Price of Progress

Progress can sometimes cause ugly results. When I saw this tree I was stunned at how deformed it was.  A once beautiful tree was now deformed and almost unrecognizable. Somewhere along the way the city decided to cut out a huge section of this tree to make room for progress.  In this case, the progress was power lines to light up our homes and businesses.  The cost of this progress was an ugly tree. This is probably not a bad

The Road We Travel

Life has been called a journey and at times it can seem like a very long and winding one.  In Proverbs 5, the Bible says “for a man’s ways are in full view of the Lord and he examines all his paths”. During times in my life when I was less interested in God, this verse spooked me.   I thought….”all of my ways are in full view of God? — holy &#@>… I’m in deep trouble”.   Since some of

Ingrid’s Innerview

It was a great joy to meet Ingrid today while serving at Atlanta Dream Center.  As she was dealing with some potentially long-term health issue she turned to God.  Today, she’s full of life, carries less burden, has been relieved of pain and no longer carries bad memories.  God has lifted her heart. Ingrid’s bright smile and love for others is infectious.  While she does not have as much monetarily as others, she is rich in spirit, in hope and

Enmer

I met Enmer today while serving at Atlanta Dream Center in downtown Atlanta.  If you or your group are looking for a simple, effective way to help the less fortunate, Atlanta Dream Center is a great place.  Enmer’s bright smile and spanish accent was hard to miss.  We met on the front porch of the Dream Center and later put together food bags to give to those that lived nearby. While together, Enmer shared about his growing up in Honduras

Don’t Give Up…on God.

What should we do when we feel like giving up? Be honest with God about our feelings. It’s in the Bible, Psalm 13:1, TLB. “How long will you forget me, Lord? Forever? How long will you look the other way when I am in need?” God has promised strength when we need it. It’s in the Bible, Colossians 1:11-12, TLB. “Being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving

Need Faith?

What is the definition of faith? It’s in the Bible, Hebrews 11:1, TLB. “What is faith? It is the confident assurance that something we want is going to happen. It is the certainty that what we hope for is waiting for us, even though we cannot see it up ahead.” Jesus is the source of faith. It’s in the Bible, Luke 17:5, TLB. “One day the apostles said to the Lord, ‘We need more faith; tell us how to get it.'” Romans

The Journey

By Billy Graham: Chapter by chapter, Graham leads us on a journey in faith. We learn about God and his purpose for our lives; who Jesus is and what he has done for us. We are reminded of the things God has given us to live successfully: the Bible, the privilege of prayer, fellowship and the church, and the Holy Spirit. We learn to deal with challenges along the way: temptation; wrong thoughts and motives; emotions that can defeat us;
