Redemptions Call

Image from Sound of Freedom Movie

I watched the movie Sound of Freedom and was overwhelmed by the personal sacrifice of one man to keep a promise to a Dad whose two children had been kidnapped into the world of child trafficking. It made me think of the power of one inspired person who believes in a mission or purpose. It made me want to, even more, live out my life purpose. The movie is about the dark side of the world of child trafficking and

Bags of Gold

Walking up the stairs one day after my first chemotherapy treatment, I had a bounce in my step that I’d not had in several days. I felt better than good; I felt really good. I had gotten really tired around noon that day and regained my strength late afternoon. In that moment of realizing the state of my health, I became overwhelmingly focused on gratitude and all the things I’ve been given from the Lord. A beautiful home and loving

The staple I have craved

For many years I trusted God but resisted His pull for my whole heart.   I would (and still can) so easily turn from God to pursue my own way.  It was as though some days I was living life on a razors’ edge – a non-committal place, yet a place of tremendous peril.   In this poem I try to convey the two sides –  the pain and darkness of turning away and the light and joy of being

Sweet sounds of music

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Are we explorers or not?

Humans have an innate desire to explore and learn about the things that are important to us. Need to learn how to use the new Apple Watch?  Sure! Need to get your resume redone?  No problem. Need to plan a family vacation?  Absolutely. Need to learn about new players for your fantasy league?  Can do! But faith? …do we desire to passionately explore what it means to really know the God of the universe? …do we desire to explore and

Pant, Thirst and Cleave to You Oh God

As the deer pants for the water brook, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. Psalm 42: 1-2 (NASB) ~~~~~ I heard a speaker at a men’s retreat once say that he wakes each morning and runs to the cross of Christ. He wakes up and runs, not walks, to the cross….to Jesus. Wow.  What a stunning visual. That made me stop and ask: Who or what am I running to first each day?

“Going to Hollywood” and Your Glory

I have to admit, I am a pretty big American Idol fan. Watching skillful undiscovered talent shine under the pressure of national television and professional judges is pretty amazing. There’s an excitement and a beauty in hearing nervous amateurs sing so powerfully, right on pitch. Many of the singers are from humble beginnings and are not even aware that they have such a marvelous talent. I cheer with them when they find out they’re “going to Hollywood” as their reward
