Sometimes it seems our world is only filled with wars, civil unrest, beheadings, evil rampages and moral decline. It must pain God to see how we treat each other….in both unspoken ways (like prejudice) and in more outward ways like murder and the bombing of innocents.
Isaiah 60:2 (ESV) says:
For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.
Like you, I am saddened by the darkness in the world and so I lament. “Joy comes in the morning”, but waiting till then can test our faith. Out of this sadness and hope I wrote this poem.

Lamenting the Days
Days loom large and lumber on, deep grief of man to bear
Horrors shriek and threaten peace on land, sea and air.
Talk of pain and proof thereof, streets laid waste and bare;
Oh goodness, kindness, love and grace – Where is thy shining flare?
Men with hatred run amok, men of silence lay;
They bow before a throne of grit; Their song to never play.
Blood spills forth and covers streets, oh many miles away.
Yet tones of it lay too close-by, oh proof we’re made of clay.
Is there hope within my veins? Are there songs of grace?
Do I hear their faint voice now; listen oh for song’s sweet trace.
Will this toil of pain ‘er end? Will this doom ‘er pause?
Perhaps it won’t till God prevails and gathers up His cause.
Oh darkness crawls on mangled floor, it hates the light within;
Yet when I somber rest in Him, my heart and soul shall grin.
And in the midst of broken dreams, between the crashed and burned;
Between the anger, toil and strife; evil twists and knows its spurned.
Glory God His name on High; no matter what the show;
I cannot waive and tarry here; My life and love’s aglow.
He draws me out from darkened space; He crowns me with His lovely grace,
He dances over my small frame, And sings a song so near my face.
Oh thank you God for being true amidst the blight and shame.
Oh thank you Lord for Your great balm, I praise your grand unchanging fame.
Evil gone from here below, forevermore lies in pits of shame;
But glory reigns of God alone, Jesus is His name.

You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
