In Genesis 34 Moses hangs out so much with God that his face becomes radiant from God’s glory. Whew. That kind of encounter with God has got to be awe inspiring and life changing.
I have seen men and women before worshipping God who had radiant faces. I’ve seen people on American Idol who had a radiant joy after or during the singing. If you watch the show, you know what I am talking about…they just glow with joy. What’s in the heart comes out on the face via the eyes.
I know we will all face hardships and, in those moments, it will be hard or impossible for us to have joyful faces. We may get sad and we may cry and be disappointed. But, the radiance I am talking about is an inner joy based on God’s presence, not an outer happiness based on events.
Being with God makes us radiant. Spending time with Him is the key I believe.
Is my face radiant, or is it filled with worry. Is your face radiant or is it filled with fear and despair and bitterness or anger toward others. I believe we all should be so consistently on our faces before God that our faces beam with his love and grace and power and mercy – for a hurting world to see.
Here is the wonderful text about Moses’ encounter with God.
Genesis 34: 33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the LORD’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD.
