And a bird sang out

Is it true that God is really with us…all the time?…even when things seem out of control, disorganized, and life’s purpose seems hollow?  Is God still there when people hurt you, when you get slighted or when you feel inferior to everyone around you?

Ever been in a meeting where personalities clashed, emotions roared and feelings were hurt.   Ever sling a little mud back at the person that’s attacking you?   I have.

I recently had one of those meetings where things unraveled and tensions were high.   During the meeting I distinctly remember hearing a bird chirping away outside.  Loudly.  I thought it was a strange contrast to the tensions inside.

As I left meeting and walked to my car…frustrated and out of sorts…I instantly felt the warm spring air hit my face….the sun was setting and as the slight breeze swirled gently around me an ease came over me.  The shady tints of the light coming through the trees had a peaceful glow….it was a calming place to be at that moment.

I then heard that same bird chirping away and it dawned on me…”I had heard that bird chirping away and singing his songs earlier…just a few minutes ago, during all my stressing and frustrations inside….that’s weird”, I thought.

But I wonder if that bird chirping on and on is perhaps a picture of the sweet sound of God reminding us of His presence during our worst and best days.    If it is true that God is with us…..we need to absorb that truth into us so that even when we experience the worst of the worst in our day-to-day living, we hear the sweet sound of God’s voice with us….singing to us even in the midst of the pressures of life.

Do you want to hear that bird, the presence of God in your life?

And All The While A Bird Sang Out

Angst of day and stress of night

stir within me now.

a heart tied up and tensions bound

trapped I feel somehow.

~~

But near to me there was  a sound

a sound of light and day

a sound so pure and surely there

it pushed despair away.

~~

Yes, all the while a bird sang out

His song so sharp and sweet.

he never even stopped just once

his song my heart to meet.

~~

His song I hear right by my side

A song both sweet and free

A song put forth by grace alone

wrapped in love for me.

~~

A sweeter song no one can hear

It comforts oh my soul

It is the song of Christ my Lord

that fills heart’s empty hole.

~~

Oh song burst forth, in fullness come

When I am low and high

Come permeate my heart right now

Both when I smile and cry.

~~

Yes, all the while a bird sang out

His song so sharp and sweet

he never even stopped just once

his song my heart to meet.

  • Mmmm . . . . I like this one, Brother. and I appreciate the related scriptures you left us with – thank you for that.
Perhaps if we are more and more able to discern, and then enjoy, his presence with us, we may be less addicted to other little gods around us.
