“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
In the midst of great pain and anguish, life can be quite difficult. Pressures from others, from day-to-day existence and challenges within us can squeeze the life out of us and steal our joy.
But, the peace and love of God is more powerful than any life event and His love can restore our hearts and our hope. So, for anyone experiencing hardship right now, I hope this short poem offers some solace.
My younger sister Susan passed away about a week ago due to cancer. But, in the middle of that terrible loss for so many, I felt a calm peace from the Lord. It was a peace that came from His love….His love for me, for her and for those that loved her. Along with my brother Jim, she was my volunteer “poetry editor”, so I’ll miss her input and great ideas. This is the last poem that she offered input on, so it’s extra special to me.
Into this hurting world I go
Where pains and hurt so often flow
But loved I am beyond my dreams
More than spawning salmon streams
This Love it has an endless shore
This Love it gives me so much more
Than any skill or hope of mine
It’s so much more, like vintage wine
But not for me to drink alone
But for a world worked to the bone
Of trying and striving and fearful too
Of pain and hurt, and all that’s blue
This Love reigns high above the cliff
And washes like a music riff
To bring the hurting with a plea
To the throne of Holy Three
Where Jesus’ love can wash them too
And change their old to something new
