Redemptions Call

Image from Sound of Freedom Movie

I watched the movie Sound of Freedom and was overwhelmed by the personal sacrifice of one man to keep a promise to a Dad whose two children had been kidnapped into the world of child trafficking. It made me think of the power of one inspired person who believes in a mission or purpose. It made me want to, even more, live out my life purpose. The movie is about the dark side of the world of child trafficking and

Sitting, Resting, Eating

According to a study by Columbia University, there are significant benefits to sitting down to eat a meal as a family.   The study concludes that when we eat more meals sitting down together good things happen. …”everyone eats healthier meals, kids are less likely to be obese, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, try marijuana….their grades will improve, they’ll talk more…there will be less stress and tension at home and your child will feel like you’re proud of them….” Just as

Karis’ Amazing Grace

I met Karis at Wright Square in Savannah on Sunday April 29, 2012. He’s a registered street performer in Savannah. He’s also poor and without most of the pleasures of life we take for granted. After talking to him, I found out he had just gotten out of the hospital after spending over 30 days there with double pneumonia…his only need in life was $42 for two prescriptions the hospital gave him. God answered that need. I also found that

He Walks Beside

If you are like me, you probably have days when you get so wrapped up in life’s rapid-fire events that you leave God out.  Everyday events, conflicts, fears, interpersonal clashes, decisions and trials get solved….more or less…on our own.   This, to say the least, does not result in the inner peace that God promises us. I am fortunate that in a moment of quiet reflection some time ago, God gave me a image in my mind that was so real I could almost feel it.  It was a

Instead I yearn for Your imbue

Pride was the great sin that started in motion a sad state for Adam and Eve and the entire human race.   Humility and dependance on God is the opposite of pride.   Pride says, “I can do it”….humility toward God says “You can do it”. It was Saint Augustine who said, “Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.” While reading a devotional on humility recently from My Utmost for His Highest (portion

Bill Stark

Bill Stark’s Faith Story from The 315 Project on Vimeo. Seeking importance, recognition, accolades and peace from what the world offered did not work well for Bill.  While some of the world’s riches and glimmer did offer temporary relief and peace, there was no underlying sense of purpose and value.  Then, one summer, all the things Bill had relied on to bring happiness and security in life, suddenly were gone.  At that point, Bill turned to God in a deeply

Golf and the Pursuit of God

I play golf 3-4 times per year, so everyone tends to understand when I hit the ball poorly. No one learns much about golf from watching me play and I don’t have much to show as a result of my playing…I shoot about a 100 (which for golf it not a good score). I really just enjoy the scenery, the camaraderie and the 3 or 4 good shots I hit during the game.  I don’t make the time to practice as

Desiring God’s Will: David Benner

David G. Benner states in his epilogue that there is a difference between doing the right ‘thing’ and following the right ‘way’. It is by going the right way that our will is most aligned with God’s will for us – it is not something that is simply reducible to a list of things to do, or even a figuring out for particular decisions ‘What would Jesus do?’ This might have a component in the process, but this is not
