Back in the spring I drove to north Georgia with my son Will to see an old friend. As is common in that area, there was a stream running alongside the road kicking up mesmerizing white water. It was clear that the power of the moving water had cut a path through the rocks and earth. When applied over time, water can have significant effect on the landscape.
Jesus, the living water, can cut a path through our hearts and souls in a similar way. Hardened crusty places – pride, control, selfishness, resentment, fear, addictions, hatred, impatience and more – can be overcome by living water. Those places need the ongoing washing over by the living water, so that they ultimately disappear….yes! disappear!
The living water of Jesus is always free, it always quenches our thirst and His water always does its work.
- Revelations 22:17 says the water we need for our souls is free for the taking. Let’s commit to taking His water more often.
- “Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
- If we drink of Him, His water, we will never thirst.
- “But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” – John 4:14
- His transformative waters do not fail. They move us from scorched places to become like a watered garden as Isaiah 58:11 says.
- “And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”
Charles Spurgeon speaks to this in his devotional:
Come just as you are, and take freely, without money and without price. He (Jesus) gives himself to needy ones. The drinking fountains at the corners of our streets are valuable institutions; and we can hardly imagine any one so foolish as to feel for his purse, when he stands before one of them, and to cry, I cannot drink because I have not five pounds in my pocket. However poor the man is, there is the fountain, and just as he is he may drink of it.

Would you stop now for just one minute and quietly ask for Jesus that He wash over you and fill you?

Prayer
Lord my heart is sometimes parched; in need of satisfying. I trust that You, living water, can knock off the crusty places around my heart. Help me to turn to Your free offer more often. Help me to stop seeking satisfaction from other sources, but to be so in love with You that I don’t want other life sources. You are my only true source. Help me to know this deeply so that You, Your living water, can do the healing and restoration I need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
